Erik Larson’s book, The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair That Changed America, is slated to be the basis for a series produced by Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese.
The book is a New York Times bestseller and has garnered numerous nonfiction awards and was a finalist for the National Book Award. It recounts the story of Daniel H. Burnham and H.H. Holmes, an architect and a serial killer, respectively, using the backdrop of the Chicago World’s Fair of 1893.
Leonardo DiCaprio acquired the film rights to the source material in 2010, and it was originally planned to be released as a film directed by Scorsese. After many years of relative inaction, it was recently reported that it would, in fact, be developed with a planned release on the streaming service Hulu. Paramount Pictures is going to produce the project.
